Now I understand why people shudder when they hear the word “flu.” Yes, I have it - Type A, to be exact. I feel like utter crap, and the timing couldn’t have been much worse. I’m leaving next week for my trip to Germany, so this week I’m supposed to be finishing up lots of stuff at work. It’s a bit difficult to write a cover story while coughing up a lung or two, feeling light-headed, aching from head to toe, and nodding off from the medicine every couple of minutes.

I even had to go into work yesterday, fresh from my flu diagnosis, to gather up materials to work on the story from home. I touched nothing on my way in and out, and I shut the door to my office and posted a Quarantine sign on the door because a closed door at work usually inspires curiosity and makes people pop in to ask why, exactly, your door is closed.

The good news is the doctor says I should be completely better and uncontagious by Monday. He prescribed Darwin some of the anti-viral medicine, too, so maybe he can ward off the flu entirely.

I caught it from my mom, who caught it from my dad. It all happened so fast, and it’s really no surprise we three caught it considering how stressed we’ve been essentially working two full-time jobs each.

I can’t wait till my vacation. Now if only I can stay awake long enough to finish reading The Packing Book and listen to a few more One Minute German lessons, I’ll be all set!

(Excuse me if this post makes no sense - I almost fell asleep four times while writing it.)

I am hoping you get better quick and that Darwin manages to avoid it altogether!

I got it Sunday and I was able to make it in for a half day of work today. I still feel sub-human, but at least I don’t have to worry about falling over when I stand up.

    Have fun in Germany!

Oh, I feel for you. I never used to understood the whole flu thing… thought people were just being whiny, and then I GOT IT. 1 week flat on my back during finals week of college. Cough, cough. YUCK!!!!! I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for your well wishes. I’m mostly better, though still coughing, which makes people at work verrry nervous.

I had the flu when we were first married, and I just remember that I was actually almost delirious. It was terrible!

    Glad you are feeling better!
