Monday, monday (ba-da ba-da-da-da)
So good to me (ba-da ba-da-da-da)
Monday mornin, it was all I hoped it would be
Oh monday mornin, monday mornin couldnt guarantee (ba-da ba-da-da-da)
That monday evenin you would still be here with me
Monday wasn’t all I hoped it would be … more like half of what I wanted it to be. Thursday holds the promise of the other half. If the plumbing’s not done THEN, maybe I will start singing the rest of that song, which gets really depressing.
The above-the-floor part of the plumbing is pretty much done. The clawfoot tub is firmly in its place with its lovely nickel-plated water lines and drain installed. The toilet is also in its place.
The sink … well, it still has its problems. Darwin has to hunt for a different drain that will hopefully still attach to the cute little nickel-plated top part.
The vent pipe has been moved to the corner of the future closet.
But of course, everything couldn’t go perfectly smoothly. That just wouldn’t be right.
The toilet we took out of the master bath and stored in the shed mysteriously got a gigantic crack in the tank. So for the moment only the bottom part of the toilet is installed. We’re planning to take the tank from the other leaky toilet, which the plumbers think has a hairline fracture in the bottom part.
So we’re combining two half-broken toilets to make one decent one. And we’ll have to buy one new toilet for the half bath. I’m disappointed in this because I have an unnatural adoration for these 1960s water-guzzling, never-fail-flushers.
Also, the clawfoot tub had to be put closer to the window wall than I wanted. I pictured it centered on the long wall, but the rod to attach the shower curtain ring to the wall was too short for that. Maybe we could’ve got a longer one, but that would require ordering and waiting, and that just wasn’t happening.
It’s not a major deal. But that end of the bathroom is looking a little crowded to me now with the toilet, bookcase and tub all wedged in down there. It doesn’t feel crowded when you’re in it, but it looks that way. The good side to this is that we now have room at the end of the tub for a little table, towel rack, or other piece of furniture.
Another issue with the tub is that our floor in the bathroom is slightly slanted. The tub comes with two short feet and two tall ones (about 3/4-inch difference between short and tall). The short ones are supposed to go on one end and the tall on the other. But Darwin had the idea to put both tall ones along one side, to correct for the slant in the floor.
The tub is now only about 1/4 inch off level and doesn’t wobble. It looks a little crazy from the back with the short and tall feet visible, but I finally decided I don’t care. When the shower curtain and whatnot are installed, it will be fine.
So nothing major. I didn’t get to use my tub like I planned, like I’ve been desperately wishing for since 2004. But at this point waiting an extra three days seems like nothing.
On Thursday, the plumbers will have the fun task of hanging out in our crawlspace all day. Then, if all goes well (which we know it won’t, but if it goes well enough), I will get to use that glorious tub.
I took a pretend soak in it after the plumbers left, and I have to tell you, it’s very comfortable. All I need is a bath pillow, and I’ll be golden.

I love how it’s coming together – if you hadn’t mentioned about the tub feet, I would have never noticed it.
If you have a Lush store nearby, I keep hearing that their “bath bombs” make a soak into a nearly religious experience – I’ve been wanting to try one, and it seems like the perfect way to break in your tub!
Oh, that looks awesome. I wish I had your beautiful clawfoot tub!!! Great Job. Enjoy your first Soak in that beautiful tub.

Doesn’t look crowded at all to me! Of course, you don’t know crowded until you’ve spent a while at my house ;)
I hope all goes well [enough- touche] on Thursday!
I think that’s a very creative solution with the tub, and I would have never noticed the switch on the feet unless you’d pointed it out.
If you have a Lush store nearby, I’ve heard that their Bath Bombs are a nearly religious experience – might be worth getting one for your first good long soak!
And one favor – Could you check your comments spam filter? It appears that whenever I list my website (based on another journaling site) in a comment on someone’s wordpress-based house journal, it gets automatically filtered to spam. Scott at “Scott’s House” journal did some testing and sure enough, even if he posted to his own site with a URL from that other journaling host, the comment was sent to spam. I just wanted to see if that was happening with your site as well, since I’ve posted comments several times that never appeared. Looks like maybe wordpress is programmed to reject those who chose a competator! Thanks for checking!
It looks gorgeous and not all that crowded. I know that first long soak in the tub will be well worth it.
